Ameraucanas are a pure breed of chicken that are uniquely American. The breed was developed in the 1970’s using Araucana chickens imported from Chile, and an effort was made to produce a blue egg laying chicken while avoiding the lethal alleles that were present in Araucana stock. Currently eight varieties are accepted by the APA, including: Black, Blue, Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, White, Buff, Silver, and Brown Red. Koops Coops does not offer color choices for this bird.
